Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") governs your use of the PatchPings mobile application and website (together, the "Service"), operated by CodenVibe IT LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). This Policy is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Service. By using PatchPings, you agree to comply with this Policy. Violation of this Policy may result in suspension or termination of your access to the Service, and you may be held responsible for any harm caused by your misuse of the Service.

01Purpose

PatchPings allows you to scan websites and domains to check for security configuration issues such as missing HTTP headers, SSL/TLS certificate problems, DNS misconfigurations, and improper redirects.

This is a powerful capability, and like any security tool, it can be misused. This Policy exists to make clear what is and is not permitted, in order to protect website owners, protect you, and protect us.

02The core rule: only scan what you own or are authorized to scan

You may only use PatchPings to scan websites, domains, and systems that:

  • You personally own, or
  • You are authorized to scan on behalf of a client, employer, or organization, with their clear knowledge and permission, or
  • Are explicitly designated as available for public security testing (for example, through a published bug bounty or responsible disclosure program that permits this type of scanning)

You may NOT use PatchPings to scan:

  • Websites or systems you do not own and do not have explicit permission to test
  • A competitor's website without their authorization
  • Any system where scanning could violate a website's terms of service, robots.txt, or stated policies prohibiting automated security testing
  • Government, infrastructure, or critical systems without explicit written authorization
  • Any target where you intend to use the results to cause harm, embarrass, or exploit the owner

You are solely and fully responsible for ensuring you have the right to scan any URL you submit to PatchPings. We do not verify ownership or authorization before performing a scan, and providing a URL to PatchPings does not grant you any right you did not already have to test that system.

03Why this matters

Running security scans against a system without authorization may be illegal in many jurisdictions, even when the scan itself is non-intrusive and does not access or change any data. Laws such as the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and similar laws internationally can apply to unauthorized scanning and probing of computer systems.

PatchPings's scans are designed to be lightweight and non-intrusive (checking publicly served headers, certificates, and DNS records), but "non-intrusive" does not mean "always legal without permission." You are responsible for knowing and following the law in your jurisdiction and the jurisdiction of any target you scan.

04Prohibited activities

In addition to the core rule above, you must not use PatchPings to:

  • Attempt to exploit, attack, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to any system, whether or not you receive results suggesting a vulnerability
  • Conduct denial-of-service activity or generate excessive automated requests intended to degrade a website's performance
  • Use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape, resell, or redistribute scan results at scale
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the Service outside of normal, individual app or website usage
  • Attempt to circumvent guest scan limits, rate limits, or other usage restrictions
  • Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or malicious purpose
  • Submit URLs or content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you do not have the right to submit
  • Use information obtained from a scan to harass, blackmail, extort, or harm the owner of the scanned website
  • Misrepresent your identity, your authorization to scan a target, or your affiliation with any organization

05Responsible use of results

PatchPings results are intended to help you understand and improve the security posture of websites you are authorized to manage. If you discover a serious vulnerability on a website you do not own:

  • Do not exploit it
  • Consider responsibly disclosing it to the website owner through proper channels (such as a published security contact or bug bounty program), if one exists
  • Do not use PatchPings results as a tool for unauthorized testing in the first place — this scenario should not occur if you follow Section 2 of this Policy

06Enforcement

We reserve the right, but are not obligated, to:

  • Monitor use of the Service for compliance with this Policy
  • Investigate suspected violations
  • Suspend or terminate accounts that violate this Policy, with or without notice
  • Report unlawful activity to relevant authorities where appropriate
  • Cooperate with law enforcement investigations relating to misuse of the Service

We are not responsible for verifying authorization for every scan performed, and our enforcement actions do not create any obligation to monitor all use of the Service.

07No liability for your scanning decisions

You acknowledge that:

  • We provide the scanning tool, but you control which targets you scan
  • We are not responsible for any consequences arising from your decision to scan a particular website or domain, including legal consequences resulting from unauthorized scanning
  • This Policy, together with the indemnification provisions in our Terms of Service, places responsibility for lawful and authorized use of the Service on you

08Reporting misuse

If you believe PatchPings is being used to scan your website or systems without your authorization, or if you become aware of any other misuse of the Service, please contact us immediately at [email protected] so we can investigate.

09Changes to this Policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
