PatchPings Lens privacy policy
PatchPings Lens is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. It has no PatchPings account system and no PatchPings backend for scans. Analysis runs on your device. CodenVibe does not collect, receive, or store your scan results on our servers.
01What the extension does
When you open an http or https page, a background script may inspect that tab (HTML, headings, meta tags, structured data, scripts, and links) and re-request the same page plus same-origin files such as /robots.txt, sitemap files, /llms.txt, and /ai.txt to read public content and response headers. The same work can run when you open the popup or click Scan again.
All scoring and analysis happen locally in your browser. Scan results are never uploaded to PatchPings or CodenVibe.
02What it stores on your device
- Local extension storage: your answer to “Is this your site?”, remembered per hostname.
- Session storage (current browser session): the latest scan result per tab, so the popup can open with results already prepared.
Nothing in those stores is sent to PatchPings. Removing the extension deletes local data. The session scan cache clears when the browser session ends.
03Network requests to third parties
During each automatic scan of a page with a public registrable domain (and again if you click Look up again on the Domain tab):
- The registrable domain name (for example example.com) and hostname are sent to Cloudflare DNS (cloudflare-dns.com), or to Google Public DNS (dns.google) if Cloudflare fails.
- The registrable domain name is sent to rdap.org, which forwards the query to the registry’s RDAP service.
These lookups are skipped for IP addresses and local host names. Those services see your IP address and the domain name, as with any normal web request, and have their own privacy policies.
Other network activity during a scan:
- Re-requests to the site you are inspecting (same origin) for the page, robots, sitemap, and AI guidance files.
- Redirect/HTTPS checks that follow public redirect responses for the page URL.
- The Social tab may load the page’s own og:image or twitter:image from the image host named by that page.
- The Stack tab may load product icons from the Simple Icons CDN on cdn.jsdelivr.net.
04Links to PatchPings
Buttons such as “Scan this site free” open https://patchpings.com in a new tab. The inspected site’s hostname is added to that link’s query string only after you click the button. UTM parameters identify the extension as the traffic source. That is separate from scanning and only happens when you choose to follow the link.
05Permissions
- tabs — detect when a tab finishes loading or becomes active so a scan can start before you open the popup.
- scripting — run the page reader in http/https tabs.
- storage — remember your ownership answer and cache the latest per-tab scan in the session.
- Host access to http://*/* and https://*/* — read pages and headers without waiting for a toolbar click.
- https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/* — load Stack tab icons.
The extension does not load remote code, does not include an analytics SDK, and does not require an account.
